Life in Van this week

Life in Vancouver these 2 weeks have been a pleasant addition to our time here. Because of the Olympics (which we haven't participated in much at all) Dave has a 2 week reading break and we've had time to spend more time with friends, family and outdoors (the weather has been gorgeous!)

Here's Jos with her new found favorite toy, the dog dish.
And crawling up my legs.
And fun with Cousin Derek
Lots of fun!
Here we are near Granville Island
And on a picnic with friends at the park

Josie in the big girl swing
And down by the waterfront again this past Sunday.
Here we are with Derek and Angela (one of our former students) after Church down by Granville Island.
Sunny again today, we're about to go walking in the woods.

we like it RAW

My dad is a purist. Sort uh. He loves raw milk-- swears by its health benefits, and in theorywould probably like to eat a purely healthfood diet which in his opinion is eating raw. RAW. So, when I told him Josie has been sick on and off for quite a while he told me just start feeding her raw foods. "Just grind em up in the blender" he said, "you'll keep all the nutrition."

"Sweet potato raw?"

"Raw peas?" (they always give me a scratchy throat)

hmm... Well, I do seem to spend most of my time cooking up apples and straining pears so that Josie can have some good natural foods. I don't buy much baby food at all-- rice cereal seems to be the only non-raw food she gets.

So here's my concession Dad-- Josie eats raw.
she loved chewing on the cauliflower though she didn't actually swallow any.
She decimated this banana, but wasn't interested in swallowing much. (5 am this morning, after crying for 2 hours to get up.)
at least she had fun. What next?

crawling (kind of)

"Come on Jos, you can do it!!"
At least, I think she can. Josie has been working on her "crawl" for some time now. She's got the strength and the basic position. She can stay on all fours just fine. It's the one knee in front of the other that stops her up. She'd rather scooch backward or do and "sit and reach" on her tummy and somehow "reach" her way across the room. I took these pictures in the kitchen last week. I thought it was so funny-- here I was on all fours with Josie cheering her on when....

Well, at least Toby can make it on command. Now she just has to learn the difference between "come here Josie!" and "Toby come!" But no wonder she gets confused, I mean, we have begun mixing up their names on a regular basis. I vowed never to call my daughter by a dog's name (I was called "Jessie, Corrie, Sharayah, Jordan, Katie! -- first 3 are former dogs names, the last is my brother... ) but... it's inevitable. TobyJosie JosieToby. We'll just call them both that. And then maybe they'll both come. That is, once the knees and hands figure out how to work together!
